Updates have been a bit thin on the ground recently, This is mainly because I, Stuart, reluctant leader of the free range ducks, am heading off shortly for 12-18 months in Canada. So most of my waking hours have been working to afford this, organising a truck load of stuff & seeing all the people I will miss!

Also… we are out of stickers again!

So to rectify both my shitness and the lack of stickers we shall have one last duck crawl before I go!

For the uninitiated, a duck crawl is a pub crawl, where all the participants are armed to the teeth with stickers, badges & other duck paraphernalia to distribute to the good people of London. (Not in London? why not organise your own!?)

So come join us on the 9th of Jan (wrap up warm) - more details to be released closer to the time.

To make this possible, I am asking for donations towards the next sticker batch, if everyone in the facebook group gave £1 .. we’d have enough for 9,000 top quality vinyl stickers (that don’t weather).

Think of it as a gift to others, a small donation from you will see hundreds of people given free stickers from a stupid man on the internet - for no reason other than fun!

One final note, My good Pal Honest Jon will be stepping up to be chief duck distributor while I’m away, meaning the duck project will roll on strong at home while I’m busy spreading the good word in Canada - top man.

fancy pants house. I managed to put one on a voodoo temple’s altar and
another on Elvis’ private jet. Please may I have some more?

“We volunteered for the Mackay arts festival and were put in touch with Crossroad Arts who were putting on a video installation involving a film on two screens with a live opera singer on a man-lift. We talked the director into putting the ducks up for a bit before the film was due to start. Week 1 the film was projected on the side of the cinema building in the centre of Mackay; week 2 the film was projected onto two nearby sugar mills (this is cane country to be sure to be sure!) but sadly we couldn’t get the ducks on those as well.

It was kwality fun both confusing and impressing lots of passers-by!”

Legend Mike Keane had a silent disco on the 4th plinth, and he took along some friends!

2. Three Kicks For a Duck

A big city lawyer went duck hunting in rural Tennessee. He shot and
dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer’s field on the other side of
a fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence to collect the bird, an
elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing.

The lawyer replied, “I shot a duck and it fell in this field. Now I’m going in to
retrieve it.”

The old farmer looked the lawyer in the eyes and stated firmly, “This is my
property, and you are not coming over here.”

The lawyer huffed angrily, “I am one of the best trial attorneys in the country. If
you don’t let me get my duck, I’ll sue you.”

The old farmer smiled. “Apparently, you don’t know how we do things in
Tennessee. We settle small disagreements like this with the Tennessee
Three Kick Rule.”

The lawyer asked, “What’s the Tennessee Three Kick Rule?”

The Farmer answered, “Well, first I kick you three times and then you kick
me three times, and so on, back and forth, until someone gives up.”

The attorney thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could
easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local custom.

The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the
lawyer. His first kick to the shin had the lawyer hopping around on one
foot when suddenly the farmer planted the toe of his heavy work boot
into the lawyer’s groin and dropped him to his knees. The attorney was
flat on his belly when the farmer’s third kick to a kidney nearly
caused him to pass out.

The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet and said,
“Okay, you old coot, now it’s my turn.”

The old farmer smiled and said, “Naw, I give up. You can have the duck.

Chuckleducks!

A fantastic weekend, in which the duck was truly accepted for the fun loving idiot he is.

We erected 16 large wooden cutouts around the site as well as giving out countless stickers & decorating every bin with a character.

What overjoyed us most was that by Sunday all ducks had been removed by festival goers, taken into their experiences and hearts. (mad props to whoever managed to remove the ninja from the lake… hope he was worth getting wet for!)

Top moments for us:

• Seeing Ziggy Starduck being paraded in someones backpack, dressed up in a tie
• Finding EveDuck at the front of the Officers mess stage
• The inspired pigeon wrestling adaptation of “free hugs”
